Simone Seccareccia from Italy is the DC14 Doctoral Candidate (Reactor Scale) in the UPCYCLE MSCA Doctoral Network.
With a background in Chemical Engineering, Simone is pursuing a PhD at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt under the supervision of Prof. Christian Hasse and Dr.-Ing. Arne Scholtissek.
His research focuses on high-fidelity CFD simulations of pyrolysis and gasification reactors, with particular attention to contaminated lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks. Through multi-scale and multiphase reactive flow simulations, he will explore modeling strategies to improve the optimization and scale-up of thermochemical deep-conversion routes for contaminated lignocellulosic wastes.
As part of the UPCYCLE training programme, Simone will collaborate with international partners through secondments at Politecnico di Milano (Italy) under the supervision of Prof. Matteo Pelucchi, where he will work on process boundary conditions for kinetics and product spectra of biogenic waste streams, and at Vyncke (Belgium) under the supervision of Dr. H. Fastenaekels, gaining insight into industrial reactor operation.
His work contributes to advancing the circular valorization of contaminated biogenic residues, supporting the development of efficient and scalable thermochemical reactor solutions.
We’re excited to follow Simone’s research journey and look forward to the insights his work will bring. 🚀
