Muhammad Hasnain Yousaf

Muhammad Hasnain Yousaf from Pakistan is the DC6 Doctoral Candidate (Reactor Scale) in the UPCYCLE MSCA Doctoral Network. 

With a background in chemical engineering, chemical innovation & regulation @ChIRs and material characterization, Muhammad is pursuing his PhD at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), under the supervision of Prof. Tine Seljak. 

His research focuses on the conversion of complex waste streams into valuable gases and products using advanced thermochemical processes such as pyrolysis and gasification. By investigating key operating parameters, including temperature, pressure, and gas composition, he aims to improve process efficiency, enhance sustainability, and maximize resource recovery from waste materials. His work will contribute to generating reliable experimental data and optimizing reactor-scale systems for next-generation waste-to-energy technologies. 

As part of the UPCYCLE training program, Muhammad will collaborate with international partners through secondments at Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) under the supervision of Prof. Benedetta de Caprariis where he will work on feedstock characterization, and Invader (Belgium) under the supervision of Dr. Karl Vrancken, where he will gain expertise in advanced thermochemical conversion processes and industrial-scale waste-to-energy applications. 

 

His work contributes to advancing efficient thermochemical waste-to-energy technologies, supporting the transition toward a circular and sustainable energy system.
