Santhosh Srinivasan

Santhosh Srinivasan from India, our DC3 Doctoral Candidate (Molecular scale) in the UPCYCLE MSCA Doctoral Network

With a background in Chemistry and Sustainable chemical processes, Santhosh is pursuing his PhD at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” at Politecnico di Milano under the supervision of Prof. Matteo Pelucchi and Prof. Alessio Frassoldati.

His research focuses on developing mechanistic chemical kinetic models for hydrothermal carbonization and liquefaction (HTC/HTL) of hard-to-recycle biogenic waste, with particular attention to feedstock characterization and the impact of operating conditions on product quality. Through semi-detailed kinetic modeling and reactor simulations, he will explore how feedstock composition influences process performance and product distribution, aiming to build predictive tools for process optimization.

As part of the UPCYCLE training programme, Santhosh will collaborate with international partners through secondments at the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) under the supervision of Prof. Tine Seljakwhere he will work on integration of kinetic models with multidimensional reactor simulations, and at Carborem (Italy) under the supervision of Michela Luciangaining insight into industrial-scale hydrothermal processing and validation of models in real-world applications.

His work contributes to advancing circular bioeconomy and sustainable waste management, supporting the development of more resource-efficient solutions for valorizing hard-to-recycle biogenic waste streams.

We’re excited to follow Santhosh’s research journey and look forward to the insights his work will bring. Stay tuned! 🚀
